How difficult is this Wordle puzzle?

There are 1,964 previous Wordle answers, and our team have scanned and analyzed all of them to figure out which are the easiest and which are going to cause you trouble. We look at all the past answers since 2021 and scan letter frequencies, placement and repetition to rank them. Based on the letters used, the uniqueness of the word and the difficulty of the letter positions, we rank this Wordle answer as a 5/5 - that's harder than 91% of past answers. The rating measures letters only: a rare word made of common letters can still feel hard.

A look at all previous 1,964 Wordle answers

We use all the answers from the New York Times since they've started publishing Wordle on June 19, 2021 including the latest puzzle on November 3, 2026 and run it through a custom tool to figure out how they match up. Here's what they reveal:

The most common letters

E appears in 47% of past answers, then A (40%), R (36%), O (30%), T (30%) and I (28%). If your first guess covers most of these, you will usually have two or three letters by the second row.

How answers start and end

S starts 1 in 7 answers, ahead of C (1 in 12), B (1 in 13), T (1 in 15) and A (1 in 16). At the other end, E ends 1 in 5, then Y (1 in 7), T (1 in 9), R (1 in 12) and L (1 in 14).

Repeated letters and repeated answers

31% of past answers have a letter more than once, so a double letter is worth trying when you are stuck with three or four letters placed. No answer was used twice until February 2, 2026. Since then the New York Times has brought back 29 earlier answers, so an old answer is no longer ruled out.

How Wordle works

Wordle gives you six tries to guess a five-letter word. After each guess, a green tile means the letter is in the right place, yellow means it is in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word at all. A new puzzle comes out at midnight, and everyone gets the same word that day.

To use this page, check the difficulty first, then open the hints one at a time. They go from the vaguest to the most direct, so stop as soon as the word comes to you. The answer stays hidden until you press “Show today’s answer”, and the facts about its letters appear with it.
