NYT Midi Crossword #253 for Wednesday, November 4, 2026: a 11 by 10 grid with 42 clues, 20 across and 22 down, and answers 3 to 11 letters long. Each answer stays hidden above until you ask.
How the Midi works
The Midi is the New York Times’s mid-size daily crossword: a grid of nine squares by nine on most days, a little larger at the weekend, with more clues than the Mini and fewer than the full crossword. It sits between the five-by-five Mini and the full daily crossword, and takes most people a few minutes. Across answers read left to right, and down answers read top to bottom, and each answer shares letters with the ones that cross it.
How to use this page
Under the heading are the day’s across and down clues, each with the number of letters in its answer in brackets. Choose Show answer, or the clue itself, to open that clue’s own page. There the answer is hidden behind blank tiles: choose a tile to see just that letter, or reveal the whole answer.
A clue’s page also lists the other puzzles that used the same clue for the same answer.
Solving a Midi without giving up the grid
Begin with the clues you can answer without a doubt, such as fill-in-the-blanks, short abbreviations and plurals, then let the crossing letters carry you into the longer answers. When one clue will not give, show just the answer that crosses it: a single revealed answer is often enough to see how the wordplay worked.
